Avett Brothers at Henry Fonda Music Box

The Avett Brothers

Venue: The Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater

Drinks: Finally at a show without having to worry about driving home, so I had five Newcastles at 7 bucks a pop for dixie cups.

Song I Most Wanted to Hear: "Paranoia in B Major" definitely, which was the second song they played in their set and I think that it was too early in the set. It would have been an expert closer or something that they built to in the set.

Musical Disappointments: The band was stellar and lively, but the same could not be said for my fellow audience members. I was very disappointed by how little movement and dancing I saw on the dance floor, it was like people were in a stoned haze. I got excited a couple of times and did a pogo jump but when I saw the depressing audience in front of me, I decided I should calm down.

Superficial/General Impression on Singer's Appearance: One brother is short and bearded, like a hippie Tobey Mcguire, the other is tall and (currently) beard-free and looks kinda like Luke Wilson circa BOTTLE ROCKET.

Merch Table: There were a bunch of rare, tour only CDs that have previously been out of print. I decided to check out the Avett family gospel album but I now wish I had opted for the live album. I also got a shirt with a bunch of bleeding dots from the Brothers Avett, I don't know what the design means exactly but I think it will look quite stylish under a blazer and (more importantly) it was my size which is very difficult to find.

Run-in's With the Bands: None. I did have 10 friends attending the show with me and so I didn't mind not hanging with the bands because I had a lot of cool people with whom I could pass the time.

Best Onstage Moment, Non-Musical: There was a moment late in the set where the two brothers shared a mic and the little one put his head on the taller one's shoulder which was very endearing and touching.

Best Onstage Chatter: It was mostly of the humble "thanks for listening" variety, unfortunately they didn't spin any yarn.

Did the Bass Player Look Bored?: No, the whole band seemed enthusiastic and sang along with the songs even when they were un-mic'd.

Overall Scientific Rating of Show (out of ten): 7.5
