Show: Fol Chen
Venue: The Echo
Drinks: Two Red Stripes and a Newcastle.
Song I Most Wanted to Hear: "Winter, That's All" which came about fifth in the set. They introduced it by saying "This is the tribal part of our set."
Musical Disappointments: No encore for their first show as a headlining band.
Superficial/General Impression on Singer's Appearance: Creepy black make up around his eyes made his head look hollowed out, otherwise he would have probably just been a short Jason Schwartzman looking dude. The lead female singer is also short but a pretty gorgeous blond chick.
Merch Table: All the previous bands had CDs and so did Fol Chen. I picked up Karin Tatoyan's CD despite not seeing her set, mostly because I liked the "Where the Wild THings Are" inspired artwork.
Run-in's With the Bands: The members of Fol Chen were hanging out and I ended up talking to a few of them. I told the lead singer dude that their album was among the best of the year, for me, and he said "Oh good. I think so too."
Best Onstage Moment, Non-Musical: None that I can remember.
Best Onstage Chatter: Talking up their cover of "Sabotage" which rocked the house, they said they were bringing this song to London next week instead of covering some brit-pop band like Oasis.
Did the Bass Player Look Bored?: No, he was staying pretty busy bouncing between instruments and harmonizing.
Overall Scientific Rating of Show (out of ten): 6.4
