Show: Jens Lekman
Venue: The Echo
Drinks: Three Red Stripes
Song I Most Wanted to Hear: Probably "Black Cab" which he played, but I really wanted to hear a few songs from WHEN I SAID I WANTED TO BE YOUR DOG and he only played "Maple Leaves."
Musical Disappointments: He played very few older songs and was not backed up by an all girl group of hot Swedish chicks in white flowing dresses, as he was the previous time I saw him.
Superficial/General Impression on Singer's Appearance: A good looking Swedish dude who either has thinning hair or will have thinning hair in about ten years.
Merch Table: I already had the vinyl of WHEN I SAID... so I bought the vinyl of OH YOU'RE SO SILENT JENS which I intended to have him sign, but he didn't come out immediately and so I opted to catch the midnight show of DRAG ME TO HELL. Oh, he was also selling a key with Jens Lekman inscribed which was a little too twee for my taste, maybe the girls dig that.
Run-in's With the Bands: Nope. I met Jens both of the previous times I saw him play and so I didn't really feel bad about missing him this time. He is a nice guy.
Best Onstage Moment, Non-Musical: At the close of one of his songs, Jens pantomimed that he was hitting an invisible xylophone above the stage and the band was prone to quirky synchronized dance movements.
Best Onstage Chatter: Before "A Postcard to Nina" Jens said "What's this bullshit about Prop 8? This is not a political song but it is about being able to love whoever you chose to love." He also introduced a new song by saying "This is a song about Google Maps and how if you follow them you will you will end up in a very sad place."
Did the Bass Player Look Bored?: Maybe a little bored.
